The FIRELINE
The Editor who made this copy of the Fire Line happen was one of
those truely nice people that you cross paths with if you are lucky! Her name is Lisa
Leber, and she is one of the coolest people. She is married to Kurt and they are living
the good life up in Washington! :-)
I got to know her from when we were both working on Placer Fire
Crew #1. One of my fondest memories of her is when she was elected to drive the Fire
Crew Bus from the first fire of the 1980 season. She describes this in her article
about her first fire in the Fire Line. After 15 minutes of driving almost everyone had
crashed out, and Lisa was starting to get pretty sleepy herself. She yelled back to
the back of the bus looking for someone to keep her awake!! I figured that I was
awake, so I would keep her company. Mark Hill, or Grizzly, also was there.
Between the two of us we kept her awake and laughing. I got to know her and Grizz
pretty well. Grizzly was our guest "crewleader" or Redhat, since Crew One
didn't have a crew leader at the time. Grizz was the crew leader from Crew 3, and I
ended up working for him during my second fire season at Placer Fire Center.
