LC-130R Ski Herc Production Listing

The LC-130R is based on the both the USAF's C-130 E and C-130H aircraft.  155917 was an E model.  The three LC-130R1's were based on the C-130E with some C-130H upgrades, the two LC-130R2's were based on the C-130H, although to keep the price down and some commonality they used some C-130E parts and systems. Three of these LC-130R's were selected by the USAF and the NFS to be modified by Raytheon Waco TX to LC-130H models.
155917 was purchased by the US Navy, the other four LC-130R aircraft were purchased by the NSF.

Crashed landed Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station 28 Jan 1973.
Salvaged at the South Pole, it was moved from the South Pole runway to its present location as a radar marker about a mile upwind of the McMurdo end of the skiway...by forklift. The fuselage and tail sections were moved separately and aligned as they had been after the crash.

Current location / disposition: South Pole Station
